Hedge services across Kent

Eleven ways we work on a hedge, grouped so you can find the one your hedge actually needs rather than the one that sounds closest.

Which service do I need?

Almost every hedge falls into one of four situations, and the situation tells you the service.

If your hedge is basically the right size and shape and you simply want the season's growth off and the lines held, that is a Hedge Tidy. If you want that to happen every year without you booking it, put it on an Annual Hedge Plan. If it is leylandii or another fast conifer, it needs cutting more often than once a year to stay this way, which is Conifer & Leylandii Care.

If the hedge is roughly the right size but has stopped looking right, the problem is usually shape rather than size. A top that has drifted out of level, faces that bulge, a base gone thin because the sides were cut vertical instead of with a batter: that is Hedge Shape. If it is genuinely too big, too tall for you to live with or too wide for the path beside it, that is Hedge Reduction. And if it has been left for several years, has grown well past reach and looks beyond saving, that is Hedge Rescue, which is staged work over more than one season rather than one heroic afternoon.

If the hedge is a feature rather than a boundary, the species decides. Clipped box, yew, privet, beech or hornbeam held to architectural lines wants the Formal Hedge Service: slower work, more passes, sharper blades. Anything genuinely high, where the top cannot be reached or seen from the ground, wants the Tall Hedge Service. And if the honest answer is that the hedge is dead, dangerous or simply in the wrong place, Hedge Removal is a legitimate outcome and we will say so rather than sell you three years of trying.

If the hedge is not at a property you live at, the practical questions are access, records and invoicing rather than horticulture. That is Landlord Hedge Care for let property and Commercial Hedge Maintenance for business premises. Not sure which category yours is? Send a photograph and we will tell you, including when the answer is the cheaper service rather than the dearer one.

Routine maintenance

Keeping a good hedge good

The cheapest hedge work there is. A hedge held at the size you want never needs anything dramatic done to it.

01

Hedge Tidy

The ordinary maintenance trim. The season's growth comes off, the existing lines are held, and the hedge looks cut rather than reshaped. Clippings blown out, everything cleared, waste taken away.

11

Annual Hedge Plan

One, two or three visits a year at a price agreed for the year, set to your species after a first inspection. Beech and yew want one, privet and laurel two, leylandii two or three.

06

Conifer & Leylandii Care

Regular control of the fastest hedges in Kent. Leylandii will not reshoot from brown wood, so the work is keeping the green shell dense and never letting the hedge reach the size where nothing can be done.

Putting a hedge right

When it has already got away

One-off corrective work. The point of these three is to hand you back a hedge that a routine visit can then keep.

02

Hedge Shape

Precision work with a line and a level. Straightening a top that has drifted, squaring faces that have bulged, and putting a proper batter back on the sides so light reaches the base again.

03

Hedge Reduction

Bringing height or width down to a size you can live with and we can maintain, taken only as far as the species will tolerate. On conifers that limit is where the green growth stops.

04

Hedge Rescue

For the hedge left several years too long. Usually staged over two or three seasons, one face at a time, so the hedge keeps enough growth to recover while it is being brought back.

Specialist hedges

The ones that need different hands

Formal clipping, height, and the decision to stop keeping a hedge at all.

05

Formal Hedge Service

Box, yew, privet, hornbeam and beech clipped to crisp architectural lines. Slower work, sharper blades, more than one pass, and an eye on box blight and box tree caterpillar where box is involved.

07

Tall Hedge Service

Large high boundary hedges worked safely from platforms and towers, with the top cut level to a line rather than guessed at from below. Access and drop zones planned before anything starts.

08

Hedge Removal

Where a hedge is dead, dangerous or genuinely unwanted, taken out cleanly, stumps dealt with, and the ground left ready for a fence, a replanting or nothing at all.

Managed for you

Hedges at property you do not live at

Same cutting, different administration. Access arranged, work documented, invoicing that fits how you account for the property.

09

Landlord Hedge Care

Scheduled maintenance at let properties without the landlord or agent attending. Access arranged with the tenant, photographs before and after for the property file, invoiced per property or per portfolio.

10

Commercial Hedge Maintenance

Shops, offices, schools, care homes, blocks of flats, industrial estates, pubs and hotels. Fixed visit windows, work outside trading hours where needed, sightlines kept clear, one invoice across sites.

Wrapped around any of them

HedgeCare

We remember so you don't have to.

Whichever service your hedge starts with, what keeps it right afterwards is the same thing: somebody holding the record and watching the season. We inspect the hedge, set its cycle, book the visits for the year, remind you before we come, and photograph every visit so the next cut continues the last one.

Every visit, on every service on this page, is held to the ten points of the Kent Hedge Standard, with nesting bird checks before work starts and green waste removed and disposed of responsibly.

Coverage

All of it, county wide

Every service on this page is available across Kent, from Thanet and the Deal coast through Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone to the Medway towns, the Weald and the Marsh. See the areas we cover, or read how we work if you want the reasoning behind all of it before you pick up the phone.

Send two or three photographs and a rough length. We will name the service your hedge needs, quote it, and tell you the best month to do it.
